A mop cleans the top of a floor. What it does not do is lift what has worked its way into the surface and down into the grout lines — it dilutes that and moves it around. You see the result in grout that has gone a shade darker every year and does not come back however often the floor is washed.
Machine scrubbing works the floor itself. A rotary machine drives a pad across the surface under real weight, the chemical is given the time it needs to do its work, and the dirty solution is lifted off at the end, not pushed into the next room.
Which pad and which chemical depends entirely on what the floor is, and this is where floors get ruined. Marble and kota are stone, and anything acidic dulls or etches them permanently. Vitrified tile takes an approach neither of them would survive. Granite, mosaic and older cement tiles are different again.

Can machine scrubbing damage marble or kota?
It can, if the wrong pad or an acidic chemical is used — marble in particular etches permanently. Matching the method to the stone is the entire craft of the job, and it is why we ask what your floors are before quoting.
Will scrubbing make a dull floor shine again?
It depends on why the floor is dull. If it is dull because there is a film of old dirt and detergent residue sitting on it, then yes — scrubbing takes that off and the floor's own finish shows through again, which surprises people. If the finish itself has worn away underneath, cleaning cannot put it back. That is polishing, not cleaning, and on red oxide, kota, marble, stone and traditional floors it is a wax finish. Can grout lines be brought back to white?
Usually much lighter, and often far more than people expect. Fully white is not something we would promise. Grout is porous, so years of dirt work down into it, and some of that has effectively become part of the material. Where grout has cracked or gone away altogether, that is regrouting — a different trade, and not one we do.
Do you clean floors on their own, or only as part of a deep clean?
On their own, and plenty of jobs are exactly that — a floor that has gone dull across a whole house or an office, with nothing else needed. It is also included when you book a full deep clean, so there is no need to book both.
Do I need to clear the room first?
No. We move the furniture ourselves and put it back, and that is part of the job. There is no need to empty a room before we arrive, and nothing to arrange in advance — if a particular piece is fragile or you would rather it was not moved, say so on the day and we will work around it.
How long before we can walk on the floor?
Straight away. The dirty solution is lifted off at the end, so the floor is walkable as soon as we finish it and furniture goes back the same day. Wax polishing is the one exception, and a long one — a waxed floor has to be left alone for 24 to 48 hours to cure.
